    Troubles are permanent

Was watching a tv show, and a character said to another character in the show: "troubles are permanent".

On first thought, that statement sounds negative.

But, come to think of it, that remark sounds so true and realistic. How can a person live without worries, problems, obstacles,  troubles, low moods etc?

Some people may think that such carefree people are just accepting and enjoying what they have. They know how to be comfortable with what they have and do not desire more. They are just cherishing what they already have and then they are able to lead their lives happily everafter.

    Are they really happy?

From another angle, i could also say that, they just do not care - do not care about themselves, the people around them, things happening in front of them, etc. Cos only when you do not care, you will never think of negative view, or you can ignore the negative aspect.

If we are never troubled, we never care. If this is the case, is this considered a happy life? Then why are we born as humans?

Suddenly, i feel that, it is only normal for a human to have troubles, cos we care.

And then, the troubles seem just part of our lives, and they will be solved, and we will get more troubles... :)

日本村 "Japanese Village" (Kallang Leisure Park)

This is my first time visit to this branch. I have visited the Tampines branch during Xmas eve 2007.

The style of the restuarant is, the menu is live! There is no paper menu and you walked around the cooking area to pick what you like to eat. You can see how the chefs work, you can choose a selection of rice sets to noodles to sushi to desserts etc. To pick what to eat, you pick up the corresponding "ice cream stick - alike" stick with the label and drop them into a container, labelled with your table no. Then you put it in a counter or the waiter will pick it up for you - depends on location.

1 thing to note about the sticks, you may not be picking what you think you are picking. I took 2 sticks from the hot green tea container and did not check the label. In the end, they served us a cold green tea and a hot green tea. So, do be careful and review what you just pick up. Though they may print out the order and ask you to vet through, it only takes < 5mins and the food will start to arrive one after another.

Yesterday, we picked 2 plates of sushi, fried tofu (tagged with a chef's recommendation), chawamushi, fried king prawn (there are 3 kinds of prawns, i forgot the name, but i think it is the most expensive one, 3 big prawns for $9.80), and teriyaki chicken with rice (tagged with a chef's recommendation).

The prawns were not bad. As usual, i cannot differentiate the taste of tofu, chawamushi and the sushi in various japanese restuarants - they all taste alright to me :)

However the teriyaki chicken is a disappointment. The meat is dry. The rice hardens after a while (it could be because it is served in this hot pot style).

The waitresses and waiters all look like they were waiting to knock off from work, there was no smile from anyone of them. In fact, we waited in queue (first) for 10 mins and no one bothered to ask us the usual question "table for 2?". In fact they asked the gal behind us.

The smell of the restuarant will also stayed with you, your hair and clothes after you left.

Unfriendly staff and biased service is not something which will encourage me to visit the Kallang Leisure Park branch again.

    Black Angus (Orchard Parade Hotel)

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants, cos they serve baked potato soup which became 1 of my favourites! Yesterday, I went to the same branch again (heard that the fullerton one branch has closed down, i vaguely rem that the food is not as nice when i first and last tasted a meal in fullerton branch 2 years ago).

The place is not crowded (not noisy) and the service was pretty prompt. We were prompted to order, and prompted if we wanted a refill of our drinks pretty promptly. However as we sat near the kitchen, i remember there were some noises coming from kitchen once in a while but it did not interrupt much of our conversation hence we managed to sit there for 2.5 hrs :p

    We took 2 lunch sets.

    1) Fish & chips, with side salad & baked potato soup

    2) Ribs, with mash potato, side salad & steak soup

Each set costs $22.90 (not including GST & service charge as yet). It comes with free flow of coke / spirit / iced tea and a scoop of vanilla ice cream / piece of chocolate cake as dessert.

I was looking forward to baked potato soup but somehow, the taste was not as captivating / appealing anymore. The fish was alright. The ribs tasted nice and the same as 3-4 yrs ago. The fries and mash potato were not so nice after turning cold (well, we took 0.5 hr to decide our order, 1.5 hrs to eat and 0.5 hr to rest). The mash potato hardened after turning cold (that reminded me that it's lucky we did not order baked potato cos we get ti try 2-in-1 dish now :p). I am not a steak person, so i can taste the strong smell of beef just by having a sip of the soup.

I will still return to this restuarant, but perhaps only on special events / occasions.

记得吃 Desserts (Bugis, Liang Seah Street)

I don't really remember the street name, but it is opposite Bugis junction, Swensens.

There are 2 dessert shops there, Ji De Chi and Ah Chew.

I tried desserts at Ji De Chi twice, ginger flavoured beancurd and mango with hasma.

I do not like the ginger flavouring, it is strong but unnatural.

The mango dessert is nice and sweet. However to pay $3 more for the hasma, i find the quantity low :)

    Ministry of Food (Bugis)

Knowing my appetite (and planning to try more food after dinner - greedy!), I ordered an ala carte main dish - ebi tempura with rice. The ebi tempura rice is not bad, and there are 5 prawns.

My friend ordered karaage chicken (did i remember correctly? haha) with half boiled egg (the egg yolk is 1/3 cooked and the egg is cold) and rice. I rem the chicken was not bad though i was having a sore throat then.

We also ordered tofu and a dessert.

I do not know how to differentiate the taste of tofu in various jap restuarants (ok except the different taste from Akashi :p) so it tasted alright (ie safe) to me.

I knew of a highly recommended dessert from internet reviews and went to try the dessert (but without the green tea ice cream). Well i am not a fan of green tea and i am already full from the dinner (and i am saving my stomach for more food later :p). The dessert is red bean with 5 small tang yuan. The red bean is quite sweet but there are 2 of us sharing, so the sweetness is acceptable for me.
